Successful Alumni Story

Julio Corredor

Julio Corredor (Columbia) – Asset Manager, Action Hotels - Dubai, UAE

"Swiss Education Group gives you the opportunity to catapult yourself into the hospitality industry."

"During my senior year, I decided to study law even though my head teacher said she saw me more as a hotelier rather than a lawyer. Three months into law school, I was not happy. Four months later I arrived in Caux Palace to study hospitality at SHMS Swiss Hotel Management School. I've been super happy ever since. My teacher was spot on!

SHMS has helped me achieve success in my career because it gave me the opportunity to catapult myself into the hospitality industry. It's all about how you build relationships, adapt to different situations and manage to be one step ahead of everyone else. You get to practice all this in school and you really become better at it from the moment you leave school to enjoy your career. SHMS taught me how to bridge multicultural gaps and how to read between the lines.

After graduation, I was selected by Starwood to join their Vita Futura program in the Middle East. I was one of the 33 selected from a total of 800 applicants! I've been living in the Middle East ever since and I worked at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort as trainee, moved to the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers. I then reported to the CEO at the Hospitality Management Holdings headquarters in Dubai where I was Head of Operational Support. Today I am Asset Manager with Action Hotels and my role is to work with the projects team to ensure we have successful, on time and on budget openings. Once the new hotels are open, it is paramount to have them performing and be as profitable as possible to ensure the owners' expectations are met.

If you are considering hospitality as a career, go for it but make sure you enjoy what you do. Remember it's never too late to make a change. As the saying goes: better late than never!"
