Swiss Hotel Management School Dean visits Fudan University

On 15 March 2023, Dominic Szambowski, PhD, Dean of Swiss Hotel Management School, joined SEG China administrators Jianhui He, Director of University Cooperation Program, and Guanghua Zheng, Director of Operations, on a visit to Fudan University. There they were welcomed by Prof. Liu Jinhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Tourism, and Prof. Sun Yunlong, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Fudan University. The group shared a productive afternoon discussing the cooperation between Swiss Education Group and Fudan University in the areas of academic exchange and talent cultivation, including cooperative curricula development by faculty teams and the design of postgraduate industry study tours, among other projects.

During the forum, Dr. Szambowski introduced the Swiss Hotel Management School to a group of university teachers and students, highlighting the fact that the school is ranked second in Switzerland and third in the world in hotel and leisure management by QS, a global ranking institution. The school, whose campus is known as the "most beautiful campus in the world", has an educational model that combines theory and practice, forward-looking teaching, modern learning tools, and an international learning environment; in fact, the school has cooperated for many years with Chinese universities.

Secretary Liu Jinhua in turn introduced Dr. Szambowski and the SEG China delegation to the cultivation philosophy and teaching program of Fudan University. Dr. Szambowski expressed appreciation for the rich history and reputation of Fudan University and recognized the rigorous academic philosophy of the Tourism Department.

In a subsequent session, Fudan University students quizzed Dr. Szambowski on topics such as the curricula, student life, and overseas exchange projects of Swiss Hotel Management School. Dr. Szambowski and members of the SEG China delegation enjoyed the student session, and enthusiastically answered the students’ questions. The discussion was warm and friendly on the part of all involved, and Dr. Szambowski said he greatly appreciated the excellent inquiring minds and communication skills of the student representatives.

Before the meeting closed, Dr. Szambowski and Secretary Liu Jinhua gave each other mementos from their respective universities, pledging that each side will dedicate their respective university assets for jointly carrying out research and cooperation in the field of hospitality, establishing a professional exchange platform, and jointly cultivating outstanding interdisciplinary talents.
