Strategic Approaches to Global Events
The exponential growth in number, scale and magnitude of events world-wide led to the development of events industry planning process based upon a process that was rooted in classical strategic management theory. These traditional developmental models are now being challenged and are leading to a paradigm shift in strategic thinking and, in the case of events management, are only now being written. There are fundamental differences within this market with, for example, success and/or failure often being based upon the part played by the media. This influence appears as a major external and internal environmental factor that reaches over the arches of any global strategy. This module will provide the tools to enable a critical appraisal of the complex issues surrounding the planning, coordinating and management of events within the global environment, which has the critical influence of access to information through 24-hour media networks. In essence events at this scale are media driven so strategies must also be media driven.
