Luis Pedro

General Manager, Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel, London, UK
Graduated 2004

“I am a people person and in what other industry can you meet new people every day! I was always curious as to what was going on behind the scenes in hotels and wanted to work in an industry with a multi-cultural environment, taking care of people and making a difference in their lives. Hospitality is the biggest industry in the world and I felt that by choosing this path I would be able to travel and work anywhere I wanted, reaching the top management level in a relatively short period of time.
At SHMS I learned to understand hotel operations as a whole in a multi-cultural environment that prepared me so well for the industry. Most of my teachers were from a hotel background and their input during the course was of extreme importance in shaping my future as a hotel manager.
Following graduation, I moved to London and had my first Deputy Manager position within four months! After 2 ½ years I moved to the Holiday Inn, Camden Lock, as Deputy General Manager/Operations Manager and during my time there, I am proud to say that we won the prestigious Hotel of the year award. In 2010, I moved to my current role as General Manager of The Ambassadors Bloomsbury, in Central London.
My advice to students is, don't look for shortcuts in your development and learning and make sure you make the most out of the internships that SHMS will help you find all over the world! Hotel Management is a profession and you will need perseverance and dedication to reach the top! Do Your Best!”
