MA Degree Programme

Location
The MA Degree programme is offered in the SHMS University Centre Campus in Leysin.

Programme Duration
Our Masters programme comprises a five-month taught programme and six months supervised independent research. The programme is delivered by a team of internationally renowned academics. A focus on research methods prepares students to undertake a major piece of independent study, the thesis, which is the pinnacle of postgraduate study.

MA in International Hospitality Management (MAIHM)
The MA in International Hospitality Management seeks to develop students' critical analytic skills and foster their creativity, so that they can respond effectively to key challenges facing the hospitality industry in the 21st century. The key themes that recur throughout the programme include; human resource issues and the management of cultural diversity, strategic management and internationalisation.  Graduates will be equipped with a range of skills to deal with trends and changes in the sector such as the growth of IT, new business practices and a more competitive market place. There is a focus on research methods allowing students to develop a major piece of independent study.
Key features of the programme are:

  • An integrated programme organised around a series of inter-related case study analyses;
  • The development of critical analytic skills through applications of theories to the hospitality industry;
  • A focus on the application of management styles and techniques in the hospitality industry;
  • A focus on the development of relevant research skills.

Key module themes are:

  • Key changes in consumption and production of hospitality services and the responses of the hospitality industry;
  • Globalisation and strategy development in hospitality management;
  • Marketing and segmentation strategies in creating value innovation in hospitality services;
  • MIS and development and application of IT solutions in hospitality management;
  • Human resources and management of diversity in hospitality.
